The year 2020 has been declared as the International year of plant health by the United Nations. The year is a lifetime opportunity to raise global awareness on how protecting plant health can end hunger, reduce poverty, protect the environment and boost economic development.
During this pandemic St. Agnes School has shown that in spite of the obstacles and hurdles, the school has proved beyond limit the very challenges put forward. Under the valuable and superior guidance of the principal Sr. Maria Gracilda A.C the teachers and students have put forth various activities with regard to protecting the environment. Plants provide the core basis for life on earth and they are the single most important pillar of human nutrition. The surrounding area of school premises was used to cultivate various vegetables and fruits like pomelo, sapota, guava, muskmelon, pumpkin, spinach, ash gourd, bottle gourd, brinjal, green chilies, snake gourd, tomato, lentils etc.
Staff enthusiastically took turns to water and nourish the plants with natural manure and the yielded organic produce was distributed generously among the staff by the principal. To enhance the beauty of the school, a variety of flowering plants were planted in pots indoors as well as outdoors.
A COLLAGE competition was organized for students along with their parents to mark the international year of Plant Health 2020. People of all ages enjoy gardening. Teachers and Students too maintained their own garden space. Children developed new skills like love of nature, physical activity, caring for plants etc. It also helped them to discover the importance of protecting plant health in sustaining life on Earth.
